Celebrating Pride Daily: Ways to support the LGBTQIA+ Community & Celebrate Yourself All Year

*This Article is an excerpt from the June 2026 Newsletter* Pride Month is here again, and if you're anything like us, it may feel a little different this year. The current administration certainly doesn't make it feel like we're free to celebrate, but that makes celebrating all the more important.

Pride began as a riot, led by Black transgender women. We owe it to them, and to every person who has fought for our rights, not to let anyone else decide how, or if we should celebrate.

Celebration takes many forms. Sometimes it's loud, like dancing at a parade. Other times it's quiet, like hugging a stranger who simply needs to feel seen.

Pride is about honoring identity, building community, and showing up for marginalized people. We encourage you to do those things this month—and every month that follows.

In all of the below mentioned ways to celebrate Pride daily, please always remember safety first. If you live or work in a hostile environment, do not feel guilt for not being able to participate in the ways you want. Your existence alone is an act of Pride, and we need you here to celebrate another day.

  • Take up space - The rise of fascism requires preemptive internal submission. Simply put, don't make yourself small because the current environment is encouraging you to. By being yourself you create space for other people to feel like they can do the same.

    This can include:

    • Keeping your pronouns in your email signature

    • Wearing your favorite unique outfits

    • Introducing yourself with your pronouns

    • Using more gender inclusive language (like 'partner', or 'parent')

    • Talking about your favorite queer artists, shows, and movies with people who may not be exposed otherwise.

  • Be Politically Active - Your local government officials rely on you paying attention, or more often not paying attention to make changes that can effect your daily life. Voting in national elections is so important, but voting in your local campaigns matters just as much.

    • Find out who your local officials are, and pay attention to their social media. Sign up for their newsletters. Stay in the loop of what they are doing,

    • Pay attention to your local library's news and events. Become a "Friend of" if possible!

    • Get on the mailing list for your town's meetings and elections. Attend when you can.

    • Talk to your officials, tell them what you like and don't like. They need your vote to stay employed, and as their 'constituent' what you say matters.

    • Register to Vote at: https://www.vote.org/

  • Support Queer People! - When we support members of our community, it allows them to continue planning, creating, and enriching the world with their unique talents. If you can make a point to support at least one LGBTQIA+ led project a day, you can make a world of difference!

    • Shop at Queer owned businesses

    • Listen to music by Queer artists

    • Watch tv, movies, and even YouTube videos made by LGBTQIA+ folks

    • Go to Queer led events

    • Share & repost content, ads, or posts from your favorite LGBTQIA+ creators

  •

  • Take Care of Yourself & Others - The weight of the world is heavy, and no one is meant to carry it alone. We must continue reaching out to one another and supporting eachother to live to fight another day.

    •  Send check in texts to friends you haven't heard from in a while

    • Reply to people's stories or posts with words of affirmation

    • Practice saying 'No' when you're burnt out, and offering kindness to others when they have to do the same.

    • Reach out to your trusted love ones when you need support.
