Spring is the season of rebirth, new beginnings, and opportunity. One of our favorite parts of this time of year, is the tulips, and lilys beginning to peek their blooms out of the ground. Their growth often mirrors our own- coming out of hibernation, digging out of the mud, to finally feel the sun on their face. As you begin to bloom this spring, here’s a writing exercise to try and help you tend to the garden of your life.
Plant the seed - What is a goal you’d like to accomplish? Do you have a project that needs done, a new career move, or a skill you’d like to develop?
Water your Garden - What can you do for yourself to help accomplish your goal? Write clear steps, or a to-do list of exactly what you need to make it happen. If you’re busy like us, consider scheduling time to focus on your goal; even an hour once a week can make a huge difference.
Let the sunshine in - We are never meant to accomplish our goals entirely on our own. Community, family, or friend support can make any task feel lighter. If you can, find a sunny person in your life, and recruit them to help in some way. Whether it be helping edit a resume, or just them offering an encouraging word, love and kindness always helps us feel warmer.
Let it Bloom - Any good seed needs time, consistency, and patience to grow. In this process, remember to continually tend to your “garden”. Water it by completing tasks on your to-do lists, and putting in your time, effort, and energy. Get as much sunshine as you can by reaching out to resources in your life who can help you.
Growth is hard work, be kind to yourself, and every time you feel like it’s taking “too long” to accomplish this goal, remember, the tulips waited a whole year to come back to greet us.
